I think some large calamity is going to be the result of Shadowlands. That would be unconsequential and I don’t think Blizzard had that in mind when setting out this story arc. It would be quite the anti-climax if we just beat Sylvanas and The Jailer and fix the roof of the world and go home and enjoy peace. It’s that or it’s some random filler crap like The South Seas! The latter has all the lore background and fans can nod their head at the name - they know about it, have heard of it before. Players are contained in one place.Īnd there aren’t many places left in the WoW universe that can deliver a whole continent that can be filled with large individual zones with a lot of variety.īlizzard can either make stuff up from the ground (Void World! In the past they said they wouldn’t do an expansion around The Emerald Dream because they struggled to realize the conceptual idea into the game.īut I think between Maraudon, The Emerald Nightmare, Ardenweald, Val’sharah, and other zones, Blizzard have progressed their art capabilities enough to be able to make The Emerald Dream into reality. There’s the return of Ysera, the Drust, and the whole concept of spirits who dream in the wildseeds.Īnd there’s Elunaria from Legion, The Emerald Nightmare, and the return of many characters like Cenarius and Malorne and so on. There’s the ongoing story with Tyrande and The Night Warrior which goes all the way back to The Burning of Teldrassil.
Shadowlands has so much foreshadowing about Elune and the Pantheon of Light and linking that to the Winterqueen. That has been my prediction for the last 8 expansions, but this time I got a good feeling about it! Would like to hear your views and speculations! As Ion said back in Legion, the Alliance is not having that inner discord just yet in their ranks. A turmoil, a “civil war” between the ranks of the Alliance. My guess with the story shaping up in Shadowlands is this. Turalyon and Anduin could fight over the throne of the Alliance now that the prince was used as a dark instrument by the Jailor and could be deemed “unworthy” in the eye of Turalyon who is manifested and obsessed by the Light almost to a blind. The ritual of the Night Warrior slowly consumes her sanity and vengeance eats her mind. Some refer to Wrathion and his muttering about the Dragon Isles but I also think Tyrande is at an interesting turning point where her character might be setting up for a future madness. I heard a lot of “void” themed guesses, however, judging by that Blizzard likes to “surprise” its players regarding the expansion themes and stories, I think we might take a little rest (I hope so) from this cosmic Starcraft thing and get back to Azeroth without aliens. As Blizzcon is right around the corner and 9.1 recently dropped, what do you think the next expansion will be?
